Storytelling Terms of Use

The rules, in plain English.

These terms cover your use of Storytelling for iOS. They are the agreement between you and me — the person who built it. The app is free and has no in-app purchases, so there is less here than you might expect.

01The agreement

Storytelling is developed and published by Andrii Kolisnyk, an independent developer based in Ukraine. By downloading, installing or using it you agree to these terms. If you do not agree to them, do not use the app.

How your information is handled — in particular how a child’s name is used — is covered separately, in the Storytelling Privacy Policy, which forms part of this agreement.

Storytelling is rated 4+ and is made for children. If you are a parent or guardian installing it for a child, you are accepting these terms on their behalf and are responsible for supervising their use of it.

02Your licence

Andrii Kolisnyk grants you a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive licence to use Storytelling on any Apple-branded device that you own or control, as permitted by the Usage Rules in Apple's App Store Terms of Service. The licence is granted — Storytelling is licensed to you, not sold.

  • You may not redistribute, rent, lease, lend, sell or sublicense the app.
  • You may not reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble it, except to the extent that applicable law expressly permits despite this restriction.
  • You may not remove or obscure any copyright, trade mark or other proprietary notice.

03Price

Storytelling is free, with no subscription and no in-app purchases. Nothing in the app charges you, and no payment details are ever requested. If that changes in a future version, the price and terms will be shown in the app and on the App Store before you agree to anything.

04The stories, and who owns them

The bundled stories, their narration, their artwork, and the app’s name, icon, design and code are the property of the developer or its licensors, and are protected by copyright and trade mark law.

  • You may play the stories for your own family, as often as you like.
  • You may not extract, re-record, redistribute, broadcast or publish the audio or artwork, or use it in another product.
  • Stories you generate in the app are for your own family’s use on the same basis.

The details you provide — a child’s name and their story preferences — remain yours. I claim no ownership of them and no licence to use them beyond producing the story you asked for.

05Using the app responsibly

You agree not to use Storytelling for any unlawful purpose, not to attempt to interfere with or gain unauthorised access to it or any service behind it, and not to use automated means to extract its content.

06Kids’ mode and the PIN

Kids’ mode simplifies the interface and locks the exit behind a PIN you set. It is a convenience for handing a child the device, not a security control and not a parental-control system. It does not restrict anything outside Storytelling.

A PIN keeps a small child inside the app; it will not stop a determined older one, and it is no substitute for iOS Screen Time, Guided Access, or simply being in the room. Do not rely on it as supervision.

07Sleep timer and audio

The sleep timer fades playback out and stops it after the interval you choose. It depends on iOS continuing to run the app’s audio session in the background, which the system may interrupt — a call, another app taking over audio, Low Power Mode, or the device running out of battery. Playback stopping early, or a timer not firing exactly on time, is possible.

Storytelling plays audio at whatever volume the device is set to. Check the volume before handing the device to a child, particularly with headphones.

08Changes to the app

Storytelling is actively developed. Stories may be added or removed, features may change, and support for older versions of iOS ends as Apple’s own support does. I may also stop distributing the app.

09Limitation of liability

Storytelling is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement. I do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that any given story will suit any given child.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, I am not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, arising from your use of or inability to use the app, and I am not responsible for third-party services such as app stores. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid for the app — which, the app being free, is nothing.

Some jurisdictions do not allow these exclusions. Where that is the case they apply only so far as permitted, and your statutory consumer rights are unaffected.

10Termination

This licence ends automatically if you breach these terms, and you may end it at any time by deleting Storytelling from your devices. The sections on ownership, liability and governing law survive termination.

11Apple’s role

This agreement is between you and Andrii Kolisnyk only, not with Apple. Apple is not responsible for Storytelling or its contents, and is not a party to these terms.

  • Support. Andrii Kolisnyk is solely responsible for any maintenance and support for Storytelling. Apple has no obligation to provide either.
  • Warranty. Should Storytelling fail to conform to any warranty that applies, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation whatsoever, and any other claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs or expenses attributable to a failure to conform to a warranty are Andrii Kolisnyk’s responsibility.
  • Claims. Andrii Kolisnyk, not Apple, is responsible for addressing any claim you or a third party makes about Storytelling — including product liability claims, any claim that Storytelling fails to conform to a legal or regulatory requirement, and claims arising under consumer protection or similar legislation.
  • Intellectual property. If a third party claims that Storytelling infringes its intellectual property rights, Andrii Kolisnyk, not Apple, is solely responsible for the investigation, defence, settlement and discharge of that claim.
  • Third-party beneficiary. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and, on your acceptance, have the right to enforce them against you.

You confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as a "terrorist supporting" country, and that you are not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.

12Modifications to these Terms

These terms may change as the app changes. The date at the top of this page is always the date of the current version, and material changes will be announced in the App Store release notes. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the revised terms; if you do not, stop using it and delete it.

13Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by and interpreted under the laws of Ukraine, and any disputes will be resolved in the courts of Ukraine. For users in the EU: nothing in these terms affects your rights as a consumer under EU law.

If any provision is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in full force and effect.
