Storytelling Privacy Policy

A bedtime app should be boring here.

Storytelling is built for children, so the rule is simple: collect as little as possible, and never sell any of it. A child’s name is used to personalise a story and nothing else, the app shows no advertising, and it does not need a real name to work.

01Who we are

Storytelling is built and published by Andrii Kolisnyk, an independent developer based in Ukraine. Under the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation I am the data controller for the information described on this page.

Questions — including a parent asking for a child's data to be deleted — go to kolisnyk7@gmail.com and reach me directly.

02What we collect

Child’s name or nickname
WhyTo personalise a story. A real name is not required — a nickname works exactly as well, and using one is encouraged.
Where it goesOn the device, in app settings.
Story preferences
WhyThe themes, moods and age range you pick, so the stories suggested next suit the child.
Where it goesOn the device.
Listening progress
WhyWhich stories have been played, finished or favourited, and where playback stopped, so a story resumes where it left off.
Where it goesOn the device.
Usage and crash data
WhyWhich screens are opened and which features are used, plus crash reports, so bugs can be found and fixed.
Where it goesPostHog, on its EU-hosted servers. Not collected at all in development builds.
Device type
WhyDevice model and iOS version, sent with usage and crash data so a bug can be reproduced.
Where it goesPostHog (EU).
Feedback or support messages
WhyOnly what you choose to write to me, when you write to me.
Where it goesEmail.

None of the above personally identifies you. There is no account, no sign-in, and no field anywhere in the app that asks for an email address, a phone number or a parent’s real name.

03How we use it

  • To personalise stories with the child’s name and chosen themes.
  • To keep track of what has been listened to, so a story resumes and finished ones are marked.
  • To improve app performance and features.
  • To find and fix bugs and crashes.
  • To provide customer support when you write in.

We do not use any of it for advertising. Storytelling shows no ads, contains no advertising SDK, and does not use the Identifier for Advertisers.

04Analytics, precisely

Storytelling uses PostHog for product analytics. It records events such as the app being opened, a story being started, paused or finished, and a story being favourited — not the story text, not the child’s name, and not audio of any kind.

  • PostHog is configured against its European host, so this data stays in the EU.
  • Analytics is switched off entirely in development builds — the SDK is never initialised and no events are sent.
  • Events are tied to a random identifier, not to a name, an email address or an account.
  • PostHog processes it as a data processor, under PostHog’s privacy policy.

05Children’s privacy

Storytelling is designed for families and children, and is rated 4+. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. The app asks for a first name or nickname only, uses it only inside the story, and states plainly that a real name is not needed.

The app shows no advertising and shares no child’s data with anyone for advertising purposes.

A parent or guardian may ask for any information relating to their child to be deleted, at any time, by emailing kolisnyk7@gmail.com. If you believe a child has provided personal data, contact me and I will delete it.

Deleting the app removes the child’s name, the story preferences and the whole listening history from the device immediately. That is the fastest deletion route, and it does not need to go through me.

06Data sharing

We do not sell or rent personal data. Limited data goes to the service providers that make the app work, and to no one else:

  • PostHog (EU) — usage events and crash reports, as described above.
  • Apple — App Store distribution. Storytelling is free and has no in-app purchases, so there is no payment data at all.

07Data retention

Data on the device — the child’s name, preferences and listening history — stays until you clear it or delete the app. Analytics data is kept by PostHog under its own retention schedule, and only as long as it is useful for improving the app.

08Security

Data on the device is protected by iOS file protection, encrypted at rest with a key tied to the device passcode, and anything sent to PostHog travels over an encrypted HTTPS connection. We use reasonable safeguards, but no system is completely secure and no service can promise otherwise.

09Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access the data held about you, to have it corrected, and to have it deleted. Parents may exercise these on behalf of a child.

To make a request, email kolisnyk7@gmail.com. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.

10Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Updates are posted on this page with a new date at the top, and material changes are announced in the App Store release notes.

Write to kolisnyk7@gmail.com with anything about this document, a privacy request, or a problem with the app. I read and answer these myself; there is no support desk in between.
